Haryana strengthens reverse tracking of MTP cases, registers 43 FIRs.

Chandigarh, August 19 - As per the directions of Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Aarti Singh Rao, the weekly meeting of the State Task Force (STF) for improving sex ratio in Haryana was held here today under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Mr. Sudhir Rajpal. The meeting focused on curbing illegal abortions and intensifying efforts to bring about further improvement in sex ratio in the state under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign.

Chandigarh, August 19 - As per the directions of Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Aarti Singh Rao, the weekly meeting of the State Task Force (STF) for improving sex ratio in Haryana was held here today under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, Mr. Sudhir Rajpal. The meeting focused on curbing illegal abortions and intensifying efforts to bring about further improvement in sex ratio in the state under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign.
It was informed in the meeting that due to the continuous efforts of the Health and Women and Child Development Department, 905 cases of sex ratio have been registered in the state from January 1 to August 18, 2025, which was 899 during the same period last year.
During the meeting, the Additional Chief Secretary stressed the need for strict action against illegal abortions and directed the officials to take punitive action. It also directed cancellation of licenses of doctors found guilty.
He said that Haryana is implementing reverse tracking of all Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and abortion cases beyond 12 weeks, especially in cases where women already have one or more daughters. A total of 43 FIRs have been registered in reverse tracking cases while 3 FIRs are under process. A total of 38 private hospitals/clinics have been issued notices for suspected abortions.
Besides, a team of health officials arrested a fake doctor who was supplying MTP kits from Narela to Sonipat. The state team will now also start reverse tracking of 1182 cases of abortion and medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) beyond 12 weeks.
The Additional Chief Secretary directed that all legal assistance be provided to the CMOs of all districts along with active coordination with the police to ensure that all these cases are taken to their logical conclusion in the courts and punishment is ensured.
He directed the officers to streamline the staffing process and ensure legal manpower with the CMOs to deal with these cases effectively.
The police department informed that the department is working closely with the health officials during the raids and is tracing the phone records and location history of the accused to expose the entire network involved in sex determination and illegal abortions.
Shri Sudhir Rajpal also directed to take action against the women associated with the pregnant women where the girls have been aborted. He directed the officials to ascertain whether the aborted fetus was of a girl and strict action should be taken in case of any illegal act. Monika Malik, Director, Women and Child Development Department and senior officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
