According to details, Mr. Modi will lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth Rs 7,300 crore at the Peace Ground in Churachandpur, where the Kuki people are in the majority. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate infrastructure projects worth Rs 1,200 crore in Meitei-majority Imphal.
The Prime Minister's visit is taking place amid repeated criticism from opposition parties for not visiting the state after the communal violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also visit Mizoram on Saturday where he will inaugurate the Berabi-Sairang broad gauge railway line and flag off the first Rajdhani Express between Aizawl and Delhi and other new trains, an official said. He said this will be Modi's second visit to the northeastern state after becoming Prime Minister in 2014.
