
Water level in Ghaggar river under control – Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal.
Tiwana (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar), August 29: Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that due to heavy rains in the catchment area last night and the opening of the flood gates of Sukhna Lake, the water flow in Ghaggar river had reached 70,000 cusecs at around 9 am this morning.

He said that the water level at Bhankharpur bridge was 10.5 feet, so the water started rising, but after some time the level started decreasing. He said that at around 12:30 pm, the water flow reduced to 35,000 cusecs and now the situation is under control.
This morning, after the situation became critical, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Tiwana dam of Ghaggar in Lalru area and also enquired about the condition of the villagers present there and assured them that the strength of the dam is intact and the administrative teams are alert.
He said that the teams of the district administration are deployed at all the critical points and places like Baltana, Bhankharpur, Mubarakpur etc. are being continuously monitored. Due to water entering some causeways, traffic has been temporarily closed and traffic has been diverted.
He said that the residents of the villages located on the banks of Derabassi sub-division near Ghaggar have been advised to remain alert. These villages include Tiwana, Khajur Mandi, Sadhanpur, Sarasini, Alamgir, Dangdhera, Mubarikpur, Mirpur, Bakarpur etc.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed that the people of Mohali district should stay away from the low-lying areas related to Ghaggar and Sukhna. Especially children should be prevented from going near rivers, causeways or water-filled areas.
