Chandigarh, August 25 - Haryana Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini said that in the past, when the opposition government was in power in Delhi, the condition of the Yamuna river was very bad. A lot of talk has been done, but at present no concrete step has been taken to clean and sanitize the Yamuna at the ground level.

The Chief Minister was responding to a question during the Question Hour in the monsoon session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly today.
He said that the Prime Minister has taken note of this issue and on his instructions, a meeting was recently held in Delhi, in which he himself, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Union Water Resources Minister were present. In this meeting, a joint committee has been formed for the cleanliness of the Yamuna river and work is being done on it at a fast pace.
The Chief Minister said that 16,000 metric tonnes of garbage has been removed from Yamuna in the last four months. He said that STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) are also being set up in Delhi to make Yamuna clean. Mother Yamuna is now becoming clean and this is the firm resolve of the Haryana government.
