Mohali, August 21: The Agriculture Department of Punjab has become one of the leading departments in committing scams for the last several decades. Sometimes in the name of seeds, sometimes in the name of fertilizers, sometimes in the name of purchase of agricultural equipment, and sometimes in the name of pesticides, scams worth crores of rupees keep coming to the fore in this department. Taking this series forward, this time a scam of about Rs 100 crore has come to the fore in District Ferozepur.
Today Sahib Singh son of Baldev Singh told in a press conference at Mohali Press Club that a Block Agriculture Officer of Block Guru Harsahai of District Ferozepur, who is well aware of the Punjab Government and officials, has become so involved in corruption that even the alleged scam of crores of rupees does not matter to him. Despite repeated complaints against him, the Agriculture Officer and the Vigilance Department of Punjab are also giving him facilities like Jetha Putra. No one is ready to take action against him, why?
Regarding the alleged fraud in the agricultural equipment provided on subsidy for the convenience of farmers, an application was given to DC Ferozepur with evidence against Block Agriculture Officer Jaswinder Singh that this Agriculture Officer has defrauded the department of crores of rupees by issuing fake bills, according to which the information sought through RTI revealed that the DC was informed about the scam of 12 bills in the purchase and sale of agricultural equipment. During this, DC Ferozepur got 4 bills investigated, while the investigation of the remaining 8 bills, which belonged to the farmers of 44 villages of Block Guruharsahai belonging to District Fazilka, has not been done yet.
He further informed that Additional Chief Secretary Mr. Basant Garg has suspended the above Agriculture Officer Jaswinder Singh on 07.08.2025 in view of the investigation of 4 bills done by DC Sahib. Sahib Singh said that the said officer in connivance with the dealers has transferred the subsidy of agricultural equipment to his accounts and has swindled crores of rupees in the form of subsidy. This illegal practice of repeatedly taking subsidy on the same equipment by giving a new color to the used agricultural equipment and through fake bills has been going on for who knows how many years.
This officer neither came in the hands of anyone during the Akali government nor during the Congress government. On the other hand, all the farmers are ready to tell by giving affidavit that they have not taken any equipment on subsidy from the Agriculture Department. He told that he has filed an RTI regarding the subsidy given to the Scheduled Caste farmers from Jaswinder Singh. He also had a complaint, to which the said officer did not give any satisfactory answer.
He also suspected that Jaswinder Singh, in collusion with his junior technician, got fake Scheduled Caste certificates made for his favorite farmers of the general category and committed a big scam in subsidy in their name. Not only this, the tools available on subsidy for the last 5 years are not available in the block, which clearly shows that a big scam has taken place in agricultural tools in the last 5 years.
He told that according to the information received from higher officials, there is no post of junior technician in the block office and only one junior technician can work in the block. The surprising thing is that 4 junior technicians are working in Block Guruharsahai. Which clearly shows that these technicians are working under the guidance of Block Officer Jaswinder Singh.
Sahib Singh further told that he has also given a complaint in this regard to the Honorable Agriculture Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, but no action has been taken so far. He also told that a complaint has also been given to SSP Vigilance Ferozepur in this regard.
The people of Ferozepur are now expecting justice from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that how true are his claims of zero tolerance towards corruption.
