
A case has been registered under various sections against 80 to 90 unidentified persons including the names of 8 persons of Khanpur.
Garhshankar, October 16 - After the announcement of the results of the Panchayat elections yesterday in Khanpur village of Garhshankar, a clash broke out between the police and the villagers and the police have registered a case under various sections against eight people of the village and 80 to 90 unknown persons. The police have registered this case under Section 149, 186, 332, 333, 353, 506, 307 and 427 IPC. The police have registered this case on the basis of the statements of Constable Rohit Mahmi.

In the FIR lodged, Constable Rohit Mahmi has stated that on law and order election duty, along with the Chief Officer of Police Station Garhshankar, Punjab Home Guard jawans Sahil, Dheeraj Kumar, Head Constable Kindar Singh, Lady Constable Neha Rana were inspecting the polling station in the concerned area. At around 6:30 in the evening, information was received that there was noise at the polling booth in Khanpur village, on which Baljinder Singh reached Khanpur village along with the Chief Officer of Police Station Garhshankar.
DSP Sub Division Garhshankar Jaspreet Singh was already present at the village Khanpur polling booth, so a lot of people had gathered there and were making noise. It was found that the polling party was not being allowed to go out due to the losing party where these people surrounded the vehicle of Returning Officer-cum-SDM Garhshankar and started hitting the vehicle.
According to the statement of constable Rohit Mehmi, meanwhile the polling party was sent off from the village after giving safe compartments. After the polling party left, former Sarpanch Ashok Kumar, his wife stood as Sarpanch candidate. Ashok Kumar and his wife were accompanied by Bahadur Singh son Gurpal Singh alias Pala, Surjit Singh, Balveer Singh alias Beera Painter, Doctor Harbhajan Mehmi, Satnam Master, Jassi wife Amrik all residents of village Khanpur and about 80 to 90 unknown people were with them, people started throwing bricks on our police party and DSP Garhshankar's police party. And Ashok Kumar ex-Sarpanch threw a brick on me which hit my left ankle and another brick hit the left side of my head. Due to which I got injuries on my head and legs and my ankle broke and other men and women threw bricks, one brick hit the left chulla of SI Baljinder Singh Chief Officer Police Station Garhshankar and one brick hit the left arm of Punjab Home Guard Jawan Sahil.
According to the statements of constable Rohit Mehmi, SP Major Singh PBI Hoshiarpur also reached the spot. The said person attacked his vehicle with a brick, due to which the front glass of the vehicle broke. SP Major Singh also narrowly escaped and DSP and other police personnel were hit by bricks. Seeing the situation going out of control at that time, our police party had to fire in the air to disperse the crowd of mischievous Ansars of the defeated side to save themselves. Ashok Kumar ex-Sarpanch of village Khanpur along with his companion and an unknown woman and persons attacked the police party with bricks with the intention to kill and damaged the vehicle by breaking it.
According to the statements of constable Rohit Mahmi, he and the SHO of police station Garhshankar, Baljinder Singh, head constable Kindar Singh were taken to the Civil Hospital Garhshankar in a government vehicle.
