Nawanshahr:- Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Gulpreet Singh Aulakh said that in the upcoming Municipal Council elections, voters have the right to vote even if they do not have a voter photo identity card, provided their name is registered in the ward-wise voter lists. Sharing details, the Deputy Commissioner said that the State Election Commission, Punjab has recognized 15 alternative documents as proof of identity for voting.
He said that eligible voters can vote by showing documents like Aadhaar card, Indian passport, driving license, PAN card with photo, MGNREGA job card, ration card/blue card, arms license with photo, pension document with photo, freedom fighter identity card, passbook with photo issued by bank or post office, health insurance smart card issued under schemes of Ministry of Labour, official identity card issued to MPs and MLAs, UDID card issued by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, service identity card issued by central/state government departments, PSUs or public limited companies, and photo identity card issued by recognized educational institutions.
Sardar Aulakh said that voting for the elections to three municipal councils including Banga, Nawanshahr and Rahon will be held on May 26 from 8 am to 5 pm, while the counting of votes will be held on May 29. He reiterated that the district administration has made extensive arrangements to ensure free, fair and transparent elections as per the instructions of the State Election Commission.
