Karnal, May 23: In Panipat, Haryana, the family members of a minor girl severely thrashed a young man—who was found accompanying her—right in the middle of the road. The incident occurred on GT Road, where the relatives surrounded the youth and rained slaps and punches upon him directly in front of the girl. Throughout the ordeal, the minor girl wept continuously and pleaded desperately for the youth's safety, but her enraged relatives remained unyielding. Observing the escalating commotion on the highway, the police arrived at the scene and took the youth into custody, transporting him to the police station.
According to reports, a 15-year-old girl from the Gharaunda police station area in Karnal had been involved in a romantic relationship with a young man from her own village. The family claims that the youth used to visit the village to purchase sugarcane; it was during these visits that the two became acquainted, and their relationship eventually blossomed into a romance. Approximately six months ago, the youth took the girl away with him. The girl's family had filed a missing person's report with the police, and since then, both the police and the family had been actively searching for the couple.
It is reported that the two had been living together for the past six months. According to the girl's mother, the couple had even tied the knot at a temple during this period. A few days ago, the girl reached out to her mother by making a call via Instagram. Following this contact, the family informed the police. The police advised the family to maintain contact with the girl.
Subsequently, the girl expressed a desire to meet her family, prompting her relatives to summon her to Panipat. The young man was also present with the girl. As soon as the relatives attempted to take the girl away with them, she began to resist. Amidst this struggle, an argument erupted between the youth and the relatives, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
According to eyewitnesses, the enraged relatives knocked the youth to the ground and began beating him. During the assault, the youth sustained an injury above his eye. Bystanders present at the scene eventually intervened to separate the parties and restore calm to the situation. Upon receiving the information, the Panipat Police arrived at the scene, took the young man into custody, and brought him to the police station.
The young man claims that the girl accompanied him of her own free will and that he had asked her to return home several times, but she refused. He further asserted that the two had married in a temple of their own volition.
Meanwhile, Gharaunda Police Station In-charge Deepak Kumar stated that the girl's family members have taken her back with them, while the police have taken the young man into custody for questioning. The girl's statement will be recorded, based on which further legal action will be initiated.
