Patiala, November 19: Patiala Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav today held a meeting with the district officials to review the incidents of stubble burning in the district and stressed on following the Supreme Court's orders to strictly ban stubble burning.
The Deputy Commissioner said that although almost 100 percent of the paddy has been harvested in the district due to the end of the season and wheat etc. has been sown in 95 percent of the fields. However, in some villages, paddy is yet to be harvested in many fields, so special attention should be paid to such villages.
He said that now additional machinery is available in the district to manage stubble through in-situ and ex-situ methods, so it should be ensured that no fire breaks out in any field now. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the officials to go to the villages themselves and said that they should personally interact with the farmers and convince them to manage stubble so that no more fire incidents occur.
Dr. Preeti Yadav said that the nodal officers deployed to prevent stubble burning should not be negligent and should motivate the farmers to mix the stubble in the fields without setting it on fire and encourage proper stubble management.
