Hoshiarpur:- In view of the Municipal Council elections to be held on 26 May in the district, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain, exercising the powers vested under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, has issued orders banning the assembly of 5 or more persons wherever the model code of conduct is in force regarding the voting in the district. 
According to the issued orders, with the cessation of election campaigning from 4:00 PM on 24 May (Sunday), these orders will come into effect immediately and will remain in force until the completion of the election process on 26 May 2026. 
It has been clarified in these orders that door-to-door campaigning can be conducted during these 48 hours with a limit of up to 4 persons. Similarly, political leaders, party workers, or office-bearers who do not have a vote in the area will have to leave the polling jurisdiction from 4:00 PM on 24 May.
Furthermore, in view of these elections, as per the orders issued by the Excise Department of Punjab, it will be a 'Dry Day' on 26 May 2026 in the constituencies where voting is going to take place. 
Likewise, according to the orders issued by the Labor Department of Punjab, voters working in registered shops and other establishments in the state, who possess a vote in the Municipal Council elections, have been granted exemption from work on 26 May 2026 so that they can exercise their right to vote.
