Karnal, 12 June: Haryana Congress has strongly opposed the ban imposed by the state government on demonstrations, rallies, and public movements till 30th September, calling it against democratic values. State Congress President Rao Narendra Singh said that in a democracy, people have the right to voice their concerns and convey their problems to the government, which cannot be restricted at any cost. While presiding over the monthly review meeting of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee held at Jat Dharamshala in Karnal, Rao Narendra Singh said that the government is trying to suppress the voice of the people through restrictions. The Congress Party will not tolerate any kind of attack on democracy and freedom of expression.
The meeting began with a condolence motion on the sudden demise of All India Congress Committee National Secretary Suraj Hegde. The leaders and office bearers present observed two minutes of silence to pay tribute to him. Speakers said that his dedication and struggle for the organization will remain a source of inspiration for workers.
Important guidelines were also issued regarding organizational discipline in the meeting. Rao Narendra Singh clearly stated that no programme, dharna, demonstration, or meeting to be organized in the district in the name of the Congress organization will be held without the prior permission and knowledge of the concerned District President. He said that the strength of the organization is possible only through discipline and adherence to the prescribed system will be mandatory for all office bearers and workers.
In the meeting, District Presidents from across the state presented reports of the organizational, political, and public contact programmes conducted in their respective areas during the last one month. These included reviews of activities like organizational expansion, public outreach campaigns, agitations on public interest issues, and dialogue with workers.
The State President directed all District Presidents to strengthen the organization down to the booth level, remain active among the public, and effectively raise the policies of the Congress and issues of public interest. The strategy for upcoming programmes, organizational expansion, booth management, and struggle over public problems was also discussed in detail.
During the meeting, the decision to rename the library established in the name of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was also criticized. Rao Narendra Singh said that Babasaheb is a symbol of social justice and the Constitution, and no compromise will be accepted with any heritage associated with his honor.
Deep sorrow was also expressed over the recent arson incident in Rohtak. While paying tribute to the deceased, Congress leaders demanded from the state government appropriate compensation for the bereaved families, better treatment for the injured, and a special relief package for the affected families.
District President Parag Gaba, senior leaders Bhupendra Singh Lather, Ramsharan Bhola, Ramesh Saini, Surjit Singh Saini, Baljeet Chauhan, Anil Sharma, Jatarun Chauhan, along with several office bearers from across the state, former MLAs, and representatives of organizational cells were present at the meeting.
