Judge recuses himself from hearing Amritpal Singhs petition now a special bench will decide

Chandigarh:- A significant turn took place in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today on the petition filed by MP Amritpal Singh from Khadoor Sahib to attend the budget session of Parliament. During the hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Beri, a judge recused himself from hearing the case due to personal reasons.
Now the matter will be heard by a specially constituted bench on Friday. Amritpal Singh's lawyer has demanded from the court that the government be ordered to take a decision on the representation of the parole as soon as possible. On the other hand, the Punjab government strongly opposed this demand, saying that Amritpal Singh has been kept in custody under the valid orders of the National Security Act.
The government argued that due to the preparations for January 26, the government does not have time to take a decision so soon. The central government's lawyer clarified that only the 'detaining authority' has the right to take a decision in this matter. Amritpal Singh has alleged in his petition that his detention is politically motivated, an attempt to suppress the voice of 1.9 million voters in his constituency.
