SAS Nagar, June 9 - Secretary of the Resident Welfare Association of residents of Jalvayu Vihar located in Sector 67, Mr. B.S. Dhillon said that the bank account of the association has been frozen for the last eight years and despite repeated contacts, the bank has not unfrozen it.
Dhillon informed that on March 17, 2017, the residents had elected the managing committee of the Resident Welfare Association of Jalvayu Vihar, Sector 67. At that time, the residents, dissatisfied with the work of the then president, had demanded to convene a general meeting. With a majority of more than two-thirds of the residents present, the president was removed and a new president was elected in his place.
He informed that the then president had contacted the SBI branch located in Phase 10 and got the long-term maintenance fund account of the society frozen. Subsequently, the elected managing committee had submitted a certified copy of the registered Resident Welfare Association, which was verified by the Additional Registrar of Societies.
He said that more than eight years have passed and despite several reminders to the bank, the society's account has not been unfrozen yet. The managing committee had sought information under the RTI Act about the reasons for freezing the account, but did not receive any satisfactory reply. He said that due to this action of the bank, the residents are suffering as the development activities of the association have come to a standstill, even though they have no fault. He demanded that this bank account be opened immediately, so that this fund can be used for the welfare of the residents.
When contacted, the manager of the concerned SBI branch, Mr. Nijhawan said that there are some legal complications in this matter, details of which have been sought. He informed that this account was frozen before he took charge as the bank manager and as soon as the complications in this regard are over, the account will be opened.
